Beannachtaí Nollaig na mBan oraibh uilig!

To mark Women’s Christmas, I am posting a video of one of the ladies only songs that we do in the choir. I would like to wish all the ladies of Kerry Choral Union and all your family and friends and all those who support our choir and our concerts the very best for the coming year. Gentlemen of the choir, remember you have to wait hand and foot on the ladies in your life today!

The Famous Nuns’ Chorus from ‘Casanova’ (Johann Strauss). Performed by Kerry Choral Union in April 2019. St. Brendan’s Church. In aid of Recovery Haven. Soloists: Iris Barry & Charlotte Calleja O’Halloran. Accompanist: Aine Murray (Piano). Director: Sharon Reidy. Filmed by: EmmaJude Lyons & Malachy Scanlon

New season ahead

That first breath that a band or choir or orchestra takes together, a breath filled with focus, intention and emotion, a breath unified for no other reason than to make something beautiful together … there is simply no better way to demonstrate the core of who we are, and the best in all of us.

Eric Whitacre

I came across this quote the other day from Eric Whitacre (he of the gorgeous Seal Lullaby and so much more) and it perfectly expresses that moment, the deep breath before the notes are formed, a moment full of possibility, before we all dive into the music together. It is a wonderful thing to experience and you can too. Our first night of rehearsals is next Wednesday, September 4th and new members are always welcome. There will be tea and refreshments so we can all catch up after the summer in style and to allow Sharon time to take new members through a few scales. Practice is at 7:30 p.m. (but if you’re new, come a little earlier, say 15 to 10 minutes) in Collis Sandes House as usual.

January – A Month for Looking Backward and Forward

A new year stretches before us, with new music and new projects but first let’s take a look back at December. We are so grateful for the lovely compliments and excellent feedback we received on our Christmas concerts. From Ballybunion, Tralee, Killarney and Listowel, the response to our performances has been so very positive and kind. We in the choir were delighted to be part of all these events.

We would like to thank St. Joseph’s, the Kerry Parents and Friends Association and The O’Neill Sisters for inviting us to perform for and with them. We enjoyed every minute.

We would also like to thank the Duhallow Choral Society, Miriam Murphy and Paula Murrihy for accepting our invitation to perform with us in Tralee. What a fantastic evening! We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

We’re back to rehearsals tonight for the new season, with two concerts already planned for April. If any of you fancy taking up choral singing as a new hobby for 2019, why not come along and see what we get up to. You won’t have to audition in front of a room full of people, just come along 10 to 15 minutes early to sing through some scales with Sharon so she knows where to put you. New members are always welcome. Existing members: have your music sorted and water bottles ready to go, it’s time to sing!

Return to rehearsals

There’s a nip in the air telling us that our beautiful summer is well and truly over. So there’s nothing to be done now but look forward – to the crisp days of autumn and the cosy nights in by the fire. Well except for Wednesday nights when we’ll all be in Collis Sandes House singing our hearts out. Our first night of rehearsals was last week and it was so good to see the brilliant turnout of new and old members. Thanks to the ladies who provided the tea and biscuits, it was a lovely way to catch up and ease ourselves back into practice. Don’t worry if you missed last Wednesday, new and returning members are always welcome. Practice tonight is at 7:30 p.m. (but if you’re new, come a little earlier, say 15 to 10 minutes) in Collis Sandes as usual.

Watch this space in the future, for announcements of concerts and other fund-raising events!

Junior Choir Auditions 2015

On Saturday 5th September, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in  St. Brendan’s Pastrol Centre, Upper Rock Street, Tralee, we will be holding auditions for new members of the Junior Choir.

There is a change this year in that people will be required to book a time slot for their audition. This, it is hoped, will facilitate an orderly running of the auditions with less waiting around for the parents and children. Telephone 087-4412700 to book a time slot.
